Grease Trap Cleaning Fort Myers

Professional Grease Trap Cleaning in Fort Myers, FL

From the River District and McGregor Boulevard to restaurants near Gulf Coast Town Center, food service businesses across Fort Myers depend on properly functioning grease traps to stay operational and compliant. At Crews Environmental, we provide expert grease trap cleaning for Fort Myers restaurants, cafés, food trucks, hotels, and commercial kitchens that rely on us for safe, uninterrupted service.

Florida regulations require strict FOG (fats, oils, grease) control, and in hot, humid Southwest Florida conditions, grease hardens and separates faster than many operators expect. Without routine commercial grease trap interceptor cleaning, buildup can lead to sewer backups, foul odors, and costly health violations. Our team delivers dependable service designed specifically for the commercial kitchens in the area, preventing emergencies before they disrupt your business.

Warning Signs Your Grease Interceptor Is Overdue for Service

1. Slow Draining Sinks

When sinks drain slowly, it often signals heavy FOG (fats, oils, grease) buildup that is restricting flow inside the trap or outlet line. Ignoring it can quickly escalate into a full kitchen drain backup and emergency grease trap maintenance issue.

2. Foul Odors

Persistent smells near floor drains or sinks indicate decomposing grease and food waste. Odors often mean your interceptor needs immediate cleaning to maintain health department compliance and prevent bacterial growth.

3. Grease Overflow

Visible grease around lids or drains suggests the trap has exceeded safe capacity. Overflow can contaminate surfaces, attract pests, and increase your risk of inspection violations.

4. Backups

A sudden wastewater backup is a clear sign of neglected grease interceptor cleaning. Blocked lines from solidified FOG can shut down kitchen operations and require urgent pumping.

5. Increased Pest Activity

Grease and organic waste attract rodents and insects. If pest activity rises, it may be tied directly to overdue grease trap service and internal buildup.

6. Failed Inspection Risk

Excess grease accumulation or missing service logs can trigger citations. Routine grease trap maintenance protects your business from costly health department compliance penalties.

How Grease Trap Cleaning Prevents Plumbing Issues
Drain Field Problems Septic Pumping Can’t Fix

What Happens If You Don’t Clean Your Grease Trap?

Neglecting grease trap cleaning in Fort Myers can lead to serious consequences. Health department fines, emergency plumbing repairs, and sewer line blockages are common results of excessive FOG accumulation. In severe cases, businesses face temporary shutdowns due to wastewater contamination or failed inspections. Environmental discharge violations can also carry heavy penalties in Lee County. Delayed service often turns a manageable cleaning into an expensive interceptor replacement. Preventative maintenance is always more cost-effective than emergency repairs.

Types of Grease Traps We Service

Lehigh Acres properties use a wide range of leach field setups, shaped by soil conditions, lot size, and fluctuating groundwater levels. Our crew repairs all of it—residential systems, commercial installations, traditional gravity designs from decades ago, modern advanced treatment systems, and containment systems built for absolute nightmare drainage scenarios where standard approaches fail miserably and leave homeowners pulling their hair out.

Under-Sink Grease Traps

Indoor vs. outdoor system location

Outdoor interceptors may require additional equipment access, while indoor systems demand careful protection of kitchen areas during service.

Frequency of service

Regular scheduled maintenance reduces excessive FOG buildup, preventing costly emergency pump-outs and extending the system's operational lifespan.

Volume of accumulated grease

Higher levels of accumulated grease and solids increase cleaning time, disposal volume, and overall service complexity.

Accessibility of the unit

Limited access points, obstructed lids, or underground placement can increase labor time and specialized equipment requirements.

Emergency vs. scheduled cleaning

Emergency grease trap cleaning services often involve after-hours response, priority dispatching, and higher operational costs.

Required compliance documentation

Health department documentation, service manifests, and regulatory reporting requirements may influence total service pricing.

FAQ

How often should commercial grease traps be cleaned?

Most Fort Myers restaurants require grease trap cleaning every 1–3 months, depending on kitchen volume and local regulations. High-output kitchens may need more frequent service to remain compliant.

Are grease traps required for all restaurants in Florida?

Yes. Florida regulations require food service establishments to install and maintain grease traps or interceptors to prevent FOG discharge into public sewer systems.

What happens during a health inspection?

Inspectors check grease levels, maintenance records, and signs of overflow or leaks. Failure to meet standards can result in citations or temporary closure.

What is the 25% capacity rule?

When grease and solids reach 25% of the trap’s total capacity, cleaning is required to prevent backups and maintain compliance.

How long does professional grease trap cleaning take?

Most services take 1–2 hours, depending on system size, access, and accumulation levels. Larger interceptors may require additional time.

I called Crews Environmental 2 days ago to have my septic tank emptied. The rep (sorry, I forgot her name) was friendly, polite, and helpful. I told her that I had used Crews Environmental when I bought my home and because they were so friendly and professional back then, I wanted to use their service again. She was able to schedule me for yesterday.; however, due to the thunderstorms and concern about lightening, she called me yesterday afternoon to reschedule to Monday. However, Raul, the technician who was just here, called called me last night at 6:50pm to ask if he could come today. He just left a few minutes ago.He showed me how full the tank was when he got the cover off and before he started the vacuum. He told me that he'd let me know when it was empty so I could go see for myself that it had been completely emptied. He said he likes for people to see for themselves that he did empty the tank, rather than just assuming it was done. When Raul had emptied the tank, he asked me to flush my toilets so that he could be sure nothing was stuck in the pipes. He said if the toilets would not have flushed, he would try sticking the vacuum hose into the pipe going to the toilets and hopefully suction out whatever was blocking it. Both toilets both flushed just like normal.. He showed me the empty tank and it is completely empty.I will happily continue to use the services of Crews Environmental. It's nice to work with such professional and friendly people. To Crews Environmental: thanks for such great customer service!!!
